Frequently Asked Questions

General Inquiries

* How can I book tickets for a show in the Fringe?

Once tickets are on sale, you should be able to buy tickets from our website, or from the Dome Box Office (01273 709709). Tickets go on sale once the Fringe Brochure is launched.

* I want to be part of the Fringe - how do I go about doing that?

The Fringe is an open access Arts festival, which means anyone can take part. You need to fill out our Registration Form, which comes with page-by-page guidance to help you fill out the form as swiftly and easily as possible.  For more information about exactly what is needed to be part of the Fringe, read through the Get Involved section of our Participants Page.

* What's the deadline for being part of the Fringe? What happens if I have missed the deadline?

At the moment, deadlines for the 2008 Fringe haven't been announced, but last year, the registration deadline was in early February. Once registration opens, we'll let you know about the exact dates!

If you miss the deadline, or if you think you are going to miss the deadline, it's important to get in touch with us as soon as possible if you do want to have an event in the Fringe!

* How do I find a venue?

You need a venue to put on your event, and if you don't have a venue yet, we're here to help you find one. There are hundreds of venues in Brighton, but especially if you're not from Brighton / based in Brighton, it can be difficult to find one to suit. The Fringe Venue Guide should be your first port of call; possibly the most comprehensive list of venues in Brighton.

* Can anything be a Fringe venue, or does it have to be one on your list?

Anything can be a Fringe venue (as long as whoever it belongs to doesn't mind!). In 2007, Fringe events took place in beach huts, private houses, on the seafront and in churches, as well as the more obvious locations for Fringe events. But there's nothing like an unusual venue; so get creative!

* Do you have to pay to use any of the venues in your guide?

Some venues do charge to hire them out, some venues are free, and others prefer to come to an arrangement with the person putting on the event. All venues are different, but our venue guide is a good starting point and suggests what sort of charge may be involved.

* Do you have accomodation details?

We produce a 'digs list' each year, which outlines places to stay.  For more information about digs, see our Make it Happen section on our Participants Page.. It also contains information about hotels and hostels in Brighton.

* Can I be part of the Fringe if I'm a non-UK resident?

Yes, of course! However, you can only be part of the Fringe if you have a Visa allowing you to come to the UK and perform in the UK. Unfortunately, we're unable to help out with specific Visa applications. All events also need to have a venue, to have registered with the Fringe, and you need to organise accommodation. Again, we're unable to find venues and accomodation for any particular event, but will gladly help you via our Venue Guide and digs list.

Specific Registration Questions

* I am having difficulty using the Web Extra package

We have experienced problems with the web extra package for people using a Max, especially with the browser Safari. If you are finding it difficult to use Web Extra with a Mac / with Safari, for the time being we suggest that you try and use the package with a PC / with a different browser if possible. Sorry for the inconvenience.

* IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Refund policy: Brighton Festival Fringe Limited and its agents Brighton Dome and Festival Limited will not issue refunds on any tickets purchased for Fringe events. Any queries must be taken up with the relevant promoter of the event. Contact details available from Fringe office.
